RESEARCH & CONSERVATION
ADVANCING MARINE MAMMAL CONSERVATION
ORRCA’s research initiatives help advance marine mammal conservation, improve rescue outcomes and contribute valuable data to the protection of Australia’s marine wildlife.

Why OUR Research Matters
Supporting Conservation Through Science
ORRCA’s research plays a vital role in supporting evidence-based conservation, improving rescue and rehabilitation outcomes, and informing marine wildlife management across Australia. We collaborate with researchers, government agencies, universities and conservation partners on a range of marine mammal projects and initiatives, including some of Australia’s longest-running citizen science programs.
You don’t need a scientific background to contribute. ORRCA welcomes people with a passion for marine conservation and skills across a range of areas to support our research team through:
- FIELD RESEARCH SUPPORT: Assist with observations, surveys and data collection projects.
- DATA AND ADMINISTRATION: Support data entry, research coordination and project administration.
- PHOTOGRAPHY & PHOTO IDENTIFICATION: Contribute imagery and sightings that assist marine mammal monitoring.
- SPECIALIST SKILLS: Researchers, students and professionals may assist with specific scientific and conservation projects.
Submit an expression of interest and the ORRCA Research Team will be in touch when opportunities become available.
