It's on again!
Every two years Terrigal Primary School holds a Festival of the Whale. This will be the third festival, ORRCA has attended them all and each year it gets bigger and better.
In 2005 more than 6,000 people attended, in 2007 over 8,000 and 2009 is looking huge!
There will be live entertainment, awesome rides, fun games, face painting, belly dancers, great showbags, a kids' zone, a chocolate wheel, raffles, a silent auction, stalls, martial arts performers, environmental workshops and, of course, fabulous gourmet food.
This year the emphasis will be on generating awareness of our ocean and natural environment and providing education on how to care for our environment. So why not bring the family and enjoy the day?
Date: Saturday 19 September 2009 Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Location: Terrigal Primary School, Havenview Rd, Terrigal
If you would like to help with this event and be a part of the ORRCA stall please ring the hotline (02) 9415 3333 to express your interest. Hope to see you there!
This was reported on in the last edition of Flippers and Flukes and was hailed a real success! Thank you to all who attended! |

NEWS FLASH!!!
Due to predicted high winds and bad weather the Port Stephens Dolphin Census has been postponed untill 10 May. The allocated time and positions remain the same. If this now frees you up and you would like to participate please ring the numbers below, but remember - it is Mother's Day.
For 1/2 hour between 9:30am and 10:00 am at over 120 sites around Port Stephens with more than 30 water sites (boat required).
It is hoped that after many years of doing the same survey at the same time, dolphin movements and trends may be determined.
If you are interested in participating please ring 4984 8253 (leave a message) or the ORRCA Hotline on 9415 3333 and a nomination form can be sent to you. Applications close 17 April with all nominees contacted by 22 April to allocate census positions.
So, why not make a day of it and bring the family, have a picnic or lunch after? Who knows who you might run into? Gatherings of ORRCAnisms are not unheard of on the day. |

Port Stephens Whale Festival is on again!
All members are invited to participate in this funtastic festival once again. The festival runs from 28 September to 12 October.
They are expecting over 10,000 people to visit d'Albora's Marina over this time. ORRCA will probably not be there the entire time but hopefully we can do the weekends.
Ring the hotline if you are interested (9415 3333) and register so we can guage how and what we can participate in during the festival.
They would like us to perform a mock rescue down on the foreshore and we will require at least 8 members for this. So bring the family and join the fun that is the Port Stephens Whale Festival.
Hope to see you there.
This event will be reported on later but it's safe to say while we had a lot of helpers, the weather was most unkind! We could participate for only one day of the event but we managed to have fun anyway! Thank you to all who helped at the time!

While the weather was a bit dodgy to begin with and then again in the middle of the day requiring us to set up and take down twice the rest of the time was an absolute corker! There were bands playing, arts and crafts and something for everyone even cats and dogs! The ORRCA display held a prime location and business was great! Special thanks to those who attended ChrissieJ, AmyL and our youngest member Ryan B who came down with his Mom and brother. Thank you so much for all the effort and hard work you put in for ORRCA on the day! And while I'm sure we all slept like babies that night it was well worth the effort and you have made a difference!Thank you!!!! |
