ORRCA Inc was founded in Sydney in 1985 and was incorporated under the New South Wales Associations Incorporation Act (1984) on 24th February 1986, with registered number Y00197-02. The Act regulates non-profit volunteer organisations.


ORRCA's operations are governed by a Constitution.


Donations to ORRCA are tax-deductible -- the organisation has been endorsed by the Federal Government as a deductible gift recipient, under Subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.


ORRCA holds a fundraising authority, CFN13016, from the New South Wales Department of Gaming and Racing.


Certain members of the organisation are licensed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service of New South Wales for marine mammal rescue and research activities, including necropsies and the holding of specimens from dead animals. Sea birds and marine reptiles are also covered by the licence.


ORRCA's books undergo independent external audit each year.


ORRCA does not pay income tax --the Federal Government has endorsed ORRCA as an income tax exempt charitable entity under Subdivision 50-B of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
